Yeah, I totally get what you mean—fixing posture helped my neck and headaches too, but the jaw stuff just lingers. I’ve seen so many patients who sit all day and swear by those little tweaks, but TMJ seems way more stubborn than that. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a mix of stress, posture, and just plain old genetics... Drives me nuts when it doesn’t line up neatly.

I’ve been down this rabbit hole too. For me, the jaw tension didn’t really improve even after I got my posture sorted (and I was religious about it—desk setup, exercises, you name it). What finally made a dent was breaking things down step by step.

First, I tracked when the jaw pain flared up. Turns out, stress was a bigger factor than I thought—like, clenching at night or during work deadlines. Second, I tried a night guard from my dentist. It wasn’t a magic fix, but it did stop the worst of the morning ache.

Genetics is the wild card, though. My mom has TMJ issues too, so maybe some of it’s baked in? Still, making small changes helped—like switching to softer foods on bad days and being conscious of not chewing gum.

Honestly, I wish there was a single answer. For me it’s been a mix of trial and error: posture tweaks helped my neck but not the jaw, stress management made more difference than expected, and the genetics part… well, I guess that’s just luck of the draw.

Jaw tension is the worst, right? I actually got braces at 34 and was shocked how much my bite kept shifting even after treatment. Did your dentist ever mention muscle relaxers or PT for the jaw? For me, stress management helped most, but I still get flare-ups.

My kiddo had to get braces pretty young, and even then the orthodontist warned us about teeth moving over the years. I totally get what you mean about jaw tension—my daughter sometimes wakes up with sore cheeks from clenching. Her ortho did bring up PT but not muscle relaxers. We found gentle jaw massages and warm compresses help a bit, especially during stressful weeks. Stress plays such a huge role... I wish more people talked about that side of it.

Seriously, the stress thing is wild. I had no idea my jaw could ache just from worrying about work. Warm compresses help, but sometimes I just need to chew gum and pretend it’s “therapy.” Retainers forever, apparently...
