That “teeth have memories” line definitely sticks with you, right? I remember thinking my orthodontist was exaggerating, but my bottom teeth started shifting a couple years after I stopped wearing my retainer. Honestly, missing 20 minutes here and there with the aligners probably isn’t going to undo your progress, but if it becomes more of a habit, that’s when you might notice issues. I get the stress about the retainer too—mine lives in a little cup by my bed so I don’t lose it (most days). The coffee thing is tricky... I used to set reminders on my phone just so I wouldn’t forget. It’s a lot to juggle, but you’re definitely not alone.

Teeth have memories, all right—mine must have a photographic one, because the minute I stopped using my retainer, those suckers tried to form a conga line. Ever try to find a retainer in the dark after you’ve knocked it off the nightstand? Not fun. I hear you on the coffee thing... I used to sneak sips with my aligners in and then panic about stains. Have you noticed your teeth shifting more at certain times, or is it just gradual? Sometimes I swear mine move if I so much as look at popcorn.

I totally relate to the “conga line” situation—my teeth seem to have a mind of their own, too. It’s wild how quickly they shift if I skip my retainer for even a night or two. Sometimes I wonder if stress or even changes in weather make it worse... sounds weird, but I swear my bite feels different on some mornings. Do you notice any patterns, like after eating certain foods or if you grind your teeth at night? I get so nervous about losing progress.

Can totally relate to the paranoia about losing progress—my teeth shift fast too if I slack on my retainer. I’ve noticed after nights where I grind my teeth (stressful days, mostly), my bite feels off the next morning. Not sure about weather changes, but spicy or really chewy foods sometimes make things feel weird for a bit. Maybe it’s just the muscles tensing up? Either way, I try to keep a backup retainer just in case... learned that the hard way after one cracked.

I swear my teeth have a sixth sense for when I forget the retainer—even just one night and suddenly there’s a new gap I don’t remember. Grinding is the worst though. My dentist suggested a night guard, but honestly, I feel like a hockey player wearing it. Chewy foods? Yeah, they mess with my bite too. Backup retainer is a must after I snapped one on a bagel... lesson learned.
