Saw a news piece about more adults getting braces - what’s it really like?

I actually never got into the water flosser hype - maybe I’m old school, but regular floss and those little threader things did the trick for me. Less gadgets, less clutter on my bathroom shelf. I do get the appeal though, especially when you’re tired and just want to get it over with. For me, it was all about finding a rhythm that didn’t feel like a chore, even if it meant a little extra time. Not gonna lie, the drool phase is real... but you kind of stop caring after a while.

I’m with you on the gadget overload - my bathroom already looks like a pharmacy exploded, so I try to keep it simple. But I caved and tried a water flosser after my orthodontist basically guilt-tripped me about “proper hygiene” with braces. Honestly, it was more splash zone than spa day at first, but I got the hang of it (mostly). Still, I miss the days when flossing didn’t require a power outlet.

Curious - if you’re sticking with regular floss and threaders, did you ever feel like you were missing out on the “braces hacks” everyone talks about? Or did you just find your own tricks? I swear, the number of random tools people recommend for cleaning around brackets is wild. Did anyone else get obsessed with those little proxy brushes, or is that just me being extra?

Totally agree, it’s like every appointment there’s a new “must-have” gadget. I stuck with regular floss and threaders for a while, but honestly, those proxy brushes became my go-to. They’re way less hassle than I expected and actually made it easier to get around the brackets. Never felt like I was missing out on hacks - just had to find what worked for me. The water flosser was too much splash and not enough payoff for me, personally.

Ha, same here - felt like I was giving my bathroom sink a bath every night. Proxy brushes are underrated, honestly. Glad you found your groove... it really is about what works for you, not the latest gadget.

Honestly, I tried the water flosser hype too and just ended up with a soaked mirror every night. Proxy brushes are a game changer, especially for those tight spots around brackets. When I had braces as an adult, I found sticking to simple tools (good old floss and those little brushes) was way less hassle. It’s funny how the basics sometimes work best - even if they’re not as flashy as the new gadgets.
