When should a changing bite during braces be checked?

During adult braces treatment, how much change in the way the teeth meet is expected as teeth move, and what would make an orthodontist want to reassess the plan? What about a bite that feels persistently different or makes chewing uncomfortable, rather than a brief change that settles?

Would it help to report whether contact seems concentrated on a few teeth, how long it has felt different, and whether it started after an adjustment or beginning elastics? I’d like to understand what details are useful to report without assuming every changing bite is a problem.

Teeth can contact differently as they move, so there isn’t one “normal” amount of bite change you can judge without an exam. If chewing stays uncomfortable or one tooth keeps hitting first, tell the orthodontist how long it’s felt that way and whether it began after an adjustment or starting elastics. That’s a reason to ask about reassessment, not proof the treatment plan is wrong.
