Getting used to implants after tooth extraction—anyone else find it weird at first?

Had a tooth extracted a couple months back and finally got my implant put in recently. Honestly, I thought it'd feel pretty much like my natural tooth, but it's been kinda strange. Like, I keep noticing it when I chew or talk, almost like my mouth is hyper-aware of this new "guest," you know? Dentist says everything looks good and it'll settle down soon, but I'm wondering if anyone else had this weird adjustment period. Did you eventually just forget it's even there? Or did you have to do anything special to help your mouth get comfy with it? Would love to hear how it went for others, cuz right now it's just...odd.

Yeah, totally normal to feel hyper-aware at first—I was constantly noticing mine too, especially when chewing. Took a good few weeks before it started feeling natural. Just give it some time, your mouth will adjust eventually...just don't overthink it too much.

I remember feeling exactly the same way when I first got mine. It felt like my tongue had developed a mind of its own, constantly poking around at the implant. Eating was definitely an adventure for a while—I swear I chewed slower than my grandma for the first month or so. But yeah, eventually your brain just accepts it as part of you and stops obsessing over it. Hang in there, it'll get better soon enough...

Totally relate to this. For me, the weirdest part wasn't just chewing—it was talking. I felt like I had a lisp or something for the first couple weeks. Kept asking friends if I sounded different, and of course they said no, but it drove me nuts anyway. And yeah, my tongue was obsessed too, constantly checking if the implant was still there or something... pretty annoying honestly. But after a while, I just forgot about it completely. Now it's like it's always been there. Trust me, give it a bit more time and you'll barely even notice it.

Reading your experiences brings back memories—I had my implant done about a year ago and yeah, the first few weeks were definitely strange. Kept feeling like there was something stuck in my teeth, and my tongue wouldn't leave it alone either. Eating crunchy stuff felt especially weird at first. But honestly, after maybe a month or two, I just stopped noticing it altogether. Now it's just another tooth, nothing special. Hang in there, it really does get better.
