I remember being so paranoid about biting into anything even remotely crunchy. My periodontist told me to wait until the roof of my mouth stopped feeling raw, which was about ten days for me. Did you find it tough to resist “cheating” with food? I caved and tried soft bread way too soon… not my best idea.

Totally get where you’re coming from—I was counting down the days until I could eat something besides yogurt and mashed potatoes. I’ll admit, I snuck in a piece of banana bread around day seven and instantly regretted it… the pain was not worth it. The cost of these procedures is already enough, so the last thing I wanted was to mess up the healing and need a do-over. I found sticking to the “boring” foods actually saved me some cash on groceries too, since I wasn’t tempted by takeout or snacks. It’s tough, but honestly, the wait paid off for me.

I totally relate to the “boring” food diet—honestly, I think it’s underrated for saving money. I stuck with soup and oatmeal for way longer than I needed, mostly because I didn’t want to risk a setback and pay for more appointments. When it comes to grafts though, did you notice any difference in recovery time or pain between autografts and allografts? I’ve heard mixed things about which one actually feels easier on the wallet (and the mouth) in the long run.

That “boring” food phase is way too familiar—my blender basically became my best friend. I’ve only had one graft so far (an allograft), but my dentist did walk me through both options in way more detail than I expected. He made it sound like autografts might heal a bit faster, but the idea of having two sore spots totally freaked me out. The cost difference wasn’t huge for me, but honestly, I was more anxious about the recovery pain than the price tag. I still get nervous thinking about round two…
