Yeah, sensitivity in nearby teeth is actually pretty common after a bone graft—I remember when I had mine done, I was convinced something else was wrong because my other teeth felt weirdly achy and sensitive. It freaked me out a bit at first, but it settled down after a week or two. Your saltwater rinse trick is spot-on, though... I did something similar, alternating warm rinses with cold compresses, and it really helped ease the discomfort. Pain meds were tricky for me too—I found that taking them with a small snack helped reduce that spaced-out feeling. Hang in there; it definitely gets better as the days go by.

Glad yours resolved quickly, but I'm going on week three here and still feeling some weird sensitivity. I keep analyzing every little ache, wondering if it's normal or a sign of complications... probably overthinking it. The saltwater rinses help somewhat, but honestly, cold compresses only made things feel worse for me. Maybe it's just individual differences, but I found gentle heat packs more soothing. Hopefully things calm down soon—I miss eating without worrying about every bite!

Heat packs might feel soothing initially, but be cautious—they can sometimes increase swelling or inflammation, especially in the early stages after a bone graft. I get why cold compresses weren't your thing (they're not exactly pleasant), but they're usually recommended because they help reduce inflammation more effectively. Everyone heals differently though, so if heat is genuinely helping you, just keep an eye out for any increased swelling or discomfort. Hope things ease up soon... dental recovery can be frustratingly slow sometimes.

I get the appeal of heat packs—honestly, I used them a lot after my wisdom tooth extraction because cold packs just made me miserable. But bone grafts are a different beast entirely. My dentist was pretty firm about sticking with ice for at least the first few days. The cold felt awful at first, but after about 15 minutes or so, it really did numb things down and kept swelling manageable.

Maybe you could try alternating between heat and cold to get the best of both worlds? Like, short bursts of cold compresses (5-10 mins) followed by gentle warmth if that helps you relax. Also, elevation helped me a bit—sleeping propped up on pillows reduced some of the throbbing.

Recovery is weirdly personal though, so if heat is genuinely working better for you, just watch out for increased swelling or redness. Have you noticed any changes since using heat packs regularly?

Totally agree with this. My son found ice packs unbearable after his graft, but switching between cold and lukewarm compresses seemed to help more than sticking strictly to one. Everyone heals differently, hang in there.
