"Even sliced thin, he said they felt 'weirdly sharp.'"

Funny you mention apples feeling sharp—I remember my daughter describing them almost exactly the same way. She couldn't handle apples or carrots at first; said they felt like they were poking her gums or something. Corn was fine for her too, oddly enough. I wonder if it's partly psychological, like after months of braces they just expect certain foods to feel uncomfortable?

We ended up sticking mostly to softer fruits like bananas and peaches for a while, and gradually reintroduced apples by baking them or making applesauce first. Took a couple weeks, but eventually she got used to the texture again. Maybe give cooked apples a shot if he's still hesitant?

My gums felt super sensitive too at first—especially with apples and chips. Weird how something you ate all the time suddenly feels uncomfortable. I ended up slicing apples paper-thin and pairing them with peanut butter...softened the blow a bit until things felt normal again.

I remember that sensitivity phase too—chips were the worst for me, felt like chewing glass at first. Weirdly enough, popcorn was fine after a few days. Did anyone else find certain foods unexpectedly easier or harder to eat once braces came off?

Yeah chips were rough, but weirdly for me it was apples—thought they'd be easy, but biting into one felt like my teeth weren't mine anymore. Took a solid week before apples stopped feeling...wrong. Did anyone else have that with fruit?

Haha, apples catch everyone off guard! I've seen it plenty of times—patients come back after braces thinking they're ready to tackle anything, then boom... apples happen. Weirdly, bananas seem to be the safe fruit zone. Soft, predictable, no surprises there. Give it a week or two though, and you'll be crunching apples like nothing ever happened. Just part of the braces-to-normal-teeth transition phase. Congrats on your freedom, by the way!
