Doing Everything Right but Still Getting Cavities

I've always been pretty careful about my teeth—brush twice a day, floss regularly (okay, maybe not every single day, but close enough), and even use mouthwash. But somehow, every time I go to the dentist, bam, another cavity. It's honestly getting frustrating.

Lately, I've been trying to step up my game even more. Switched to an electric toothbrush, started flossing religiously every night, and cut back on sugary snacks and drinks. I even started chewing sugar-free gum after meals because I read somewhere it helps neutralize acids or something. But I'm still kinda worried it's not enough.

Does anyone else deal with this? Maybe I'm missing something obvious or there's some secret trick I haven't heard about yet. Would love to hear if anyone has found a better way to keep cavities away, because at this point, I'm running out of ideas...

Yeah, same here—it's frustrating. Have you checked if your toothpaste has enough fluoride? I switched to a higher-fluoride one my dentist recommended, and it seems to help... plus it's not expensive. Might be worth asking about next visit.

My dentist mentioned fluoride too, but also pointed out that sometimes it's just genetics or even diet-related stuff you wouldn't expect (like acidic drinks or snacks). I've cut back on soda and juice lately, and it seems to be helping a bit... maybe worth looking into your diet too? Anyway, you're definitely not alone in this struggle.

I've had similar experiences myself—did all the recommended dental hygiene stuff, yet cavities kept popping up. Eventually, my dentist suggested checking for dry mouth issues or even acid reflux...turned out reflux was quietly damaging my teeth. Might be worth exploring that angle too.

Yeah, reflux can be sneaky like that...it's good you found that out. Did your dentist also mention diet specifics? I've noticed certain acidic foods—even healthy ones like citrus or tomatoes—can quietly wear down enamel if you're sensitive. Also, have you tried fluoride mouthwash or toothpaste specifically designed for enamel protection? My dentist recommended those, and they've made a noticeable difference over the past year or so. Might be another angle worth considering.
