After what feels like forever of trying different mouthguards for my 9-year-old's soccer games, I finally found one that doesn't lead to endless complaining. Seriously, the drama before every game was becoming a bigger issue than the actual matches, lol. Tried those boil-and-bite ones first, but they were either too bulky or just "felt weird" according to my son (very descriptive, right?). Anyway, ended up getting one of those slimmer custom-fit ones from our dentist—yeah, pricier for sure—but he actually wears it now without fuss and says it's way easier to breathe and talk. Plus side: no more stress about chipped teeth or worse injuries.

Curious if anyone else had similar success after upgrading or switching types. Or maybe your kids were less picky than mine, haha?

We had a similar experience—my daughter hated the boil-and-bite ones too, said they made her gag. Finally went custom-fit and suddenly no more complaints...guess comfort really does make a difference, huh? Glad you found something that works!

My son had the same issue with boil-and-bite guards. He always complained they felt bulky and made it hard to breathe comfortably during soccer. We finally went custom-fit after his orthodontist suggested it, and honestly, it was night and day. He said it felt like he wasn't even wearing one...and no more gagging or fussing before games. Definitely worth the extra step if it means they're actually gonna wear the thing consistently. Glad your daughter found relief too!
