My 5-year-old fell off her scooter yesterday and chipped her front tooth pretty badly. Dentist said it'll heal fine but it'll take a while. Anyone else's kid had something similar happen? How long did it take to look normal again?

My daughter chipped her front tooth around the same age—tripped running up some stairs. It looked pretty rough at first, and honestly, it took a good couple of months before it started looking less noticeable. Dentist said kids' teeth heal surprisingly well, and he was right. Hers smoothed out gradually over time and now you wouldn't even know unless you're really looking for it.

Did your dentist mention anything about sensitivity? My kid complained about cold drinks bothering her tooth for a few weeks afterward...just curious if that's common or if we were just unlucky.

Weirdly enough, sensitivity isn't always a given with chipped teeth. My nephew chipped his front tooth pretty badly after a scooter mishap, and he never complained about cold or hot drinks bothering him at all. Dentist explained it depends on how deep the chip goes—if it exposes more sensitive layers, you'll feel it more. Maybe your daughter's chip was just a tad deeper or closer to nerves? Either way, glad it eased up eventually...kids bounce back faster than we think sometimes.
