- I chipped a molar on popcorn last month. Super annoying.
- Totally get what you mean about tomato sauce—acidic stuff made mine throb way more than ice cream, weirdly.
- Tried the gum trick too, but it kept getting stuck or tasting gross after a bit. Dental wax was better for me, but honestly, it’s not exactly tasty either.
- My dentist mentioned sugarless gum or wax, but didn’t say which was actually safer. I guess wax is made for teeth, so maybe that’s a plus?
- Noticed I kept accidentally chewing on that side anyway... muscle memory is real.
- I was paranoid about making it worse, so stuck to soft food till my appointment. Yogurt and scrambled eggs got old fast.
- Didn’t realize how much a tiny chip can mess with your whole mouth until it happened.
Totally get where everyone’s coming from—chipped a molar on a tortilla chip a couple years back and it was wild how much it threw off my whole mouth. Didn’t expect to be so obsessed with what I was eating, but yeah, even the tiniest piece of sharp food made me paranoid. I remember thinking, “It’s just a chip, how bad can it be?” but then every sip of coffee or bite of anything remotely crunchy felt like Russian roulette.

That right there. I kept forgetting and chewing on that side too, even when I promised myself not to. It’s like your jaw has a mind of its own.
I tried the gum trick too, but honestly, the wax was less gross once you get used to it. Gum just got all weird and sticky after a while. Plus, my dentist said wax is less likely to cause problems if you accidentally swallow a bit (which… yeah, happened). Not exactly gourmet, but it beats biting into something and feeling that zing.
Tomato sauce is such a weird one. For me, citrus stuff was way worse than cold things—lemon juice had me seeing stars. Couldn’t believe how sensitive everything got.
One thing that helped a bit was rinsing with warm salt water after eating, just to keep things clean and soothe the ache a little. Not sure if it did much, but it made me feel like I was doing something useful while waiting for my appointment (which took ages because of insurance nonsense).
Soft foods got old real fast for me too. Ended up eating a lot of mashed potatoes and applesauce like some kind of toddler. But hey, at least nothing got stuck in the chip.
It’s crazy how something so small can hijack your whole routine. Just glad once it got fixed, I could eat normal food again without stressing every bite.
