Had dentures for years, finally switched to implants last fall. Honestly, eating’s way easier now and I don’t worry about them slipping around. But dang, the healing took longer than I expected. Anyone else regret or love their switch?

Yeah, I totally get what you mean about the healing taking longer. I’m thinking about making the switch myself, but that recovery time is what’s giving me pause. Did you have any issues with pain or swelling after the surgery, or was it just slow to heal? Also, how did you deal with eating while things were still sore? I’m a bit worried about that part honestly.

Swelling was definitely a thing for me, but honestly, the pain wasn’t as bad as I’d built it up in my head. The weirdest part was having to live on mashed potatoes and soup for like... way too long. I tried biting into a sandwich early on and instantly regretted it—felt like my jaw was auditioning for a horror movie. It was slow going, but once things settled down, eating felt way more natural than with dentures. Just gotta brace yourself for those first couple weeks of culinary monotony.

I get what you mean about the mashed potatoes phase—it gets old fast. I had dentures for years before switching to implants, and honestly, the difference was night and day for me. With dentures, I always worried they’d slip or click at the worst moments, and certain foods were just off-limits. Implants felt more like having my actual teeth back, even if the healing process was a hassle. The first couple weeks weren’t fun, but now I don’t even think about what I’m eating. For me, the stability alone made it worth the temporary discomfort.

The mashed potatoes phase—yeah, that’s a rite of passage nobody warns you about. I remember living on soup and yogurt for what felt like forever. Once the swelling went down, though, I started to notice little things—like actually biting into an apple again without worrying. The healing was rougher than I’d hoped (I underestimated how much jaw soreness would mess with my sleep), but now it’s almost like I forget they aren’t real teeth. Still, if someone told me upfront how long the whole process would drag out, I might’ve hesitated.
