Finally flossing around my implants without fear - anyone else get nervous at first?
Getting used to flossing around my implants was honestly more stressful than I expected. I tried those threaders, but my hands just don’t cooperate - kept dropping them or poking my gums. The water flosser seemed intimidating at first, especially the pressure settings, but once I figured it out, it felt a lot less overwhelming. Still get a bit anxious before starting, but it’s way better than the fiddly threaders for me.
Man, those threaders are like wrestling with dental spaghetti, right? I’ve got pretty steady hands, but even for me they end up somewhere between my cheek and the kitchen floor half the time. The water flosser is a game changer - though I did blast myself in the face the first week. Did you find a pressure setting that doesn’t make your gums jump? Or do you just kind of wing it each time?

That’s the perfect description. I used to dread the whole threader routine - half the time I’d drop it or poke my gum. Water flosser was a big relief, but I had to dial it way down at first. For me, setting 3 is the sweet spot. Any higher and my gums feel like they’re getting a pressure wash they didn’t ask for. I still get a little nervous around the implants, but it’s gotten easier with practice. Sometimes I miss the old-fashioned floss, but not enough to go back.
I still get pretty anxious using the water flosser around my implants. I’m always worried I’ll hit the wrong spot or mess something up, even on the lowest setting. Did anyone’s dentist give them a specific routine or tips for using it safely? Sometimes I wonder if I’m being too gentle and not actually cleaning well enough…
I totally get where you’re coming from - I was super nervous at first too. My dentist did a quick demo and basically said to aim the water stream just along the gumline, not directly at the implant. I still worry I’m missing spots, but apparently being gentle is better than blasting too hard. It took a few weeks to feel less anxious, honestly. If it helps, my hygienist told me consistency matters more than pressure.
