implant right away or wait a bit after tooth pulled?

My dentist said I can either get an implant put in immediately after extraction or wait a few months for healing first. I'm kinda torn... immediate sounds convenient, but waiting might be safer? Curious what others chose and why.

Honestly, I went with waiting... figured I'd rather have a solid base than risk complications later. Plus, a few months without chewing on one side gave me an excuse to eat more ice creamβ€”silver linings, right?

I totally get where you're coming from with the ice cream perk, haha. When I had mine done, I was tempted by the immediate option tooβ€”mostly because patience isn't exactly my strong suit. But after chatting with my dentist, I ended up waiting a bit longer. She explained that giving the bone some time to heal and stabilize could reduce the risk of implant failure down the road. Honestly, the thought of having to redo the whole thing later was enough to convince me.

The waiting period wasn't exactly fun, but it wasn't terrible either. I got pretty creative with smoothies and soups, and weirdly enough, discovered a few new favorite recipes along the way. Plus, knowing I was doing everything possible to ensure the implant would last gave me some peace of mind. Everyone's different, of course, but for me, the extra wait felt worth it in the end.

Yeah, patience isn't my strong suit either, so I totally relate. I'm still debating whether to wait or just get it done right away... Did your dentist mention how long the ideal waiting period usually is?
