Glad I'm not the only one who's worried about sedation! My son needs some dental work done next month, and honestly, I'm probably more nervous about it than he is. 😅 I've heard similar stories about people waking up and not realizing the procedure even happened, which sounds reassuring, but it's still hard to shake off that anxiety. I keep thinking, what if he's one of those rare cases where sedation doesn't work properly, or he wakes up halfway through? (I know, I know... classic overthinking parent here.)
Did anyone here have their kid sedated for dental stuff? Curious how it went for them—like, did they feel groggy or weird afterward? I've asked our dentist a bunch of questions already, but hearing from other parents who've been through it feels more reassuring somehow.

I haven't had a child go through it, but I was sedated myself a few years ago when I got my wisdom teeth removed. Honestly, I was just like you—super anxious beforehand, imagining all kinds of worst-case scenarios. But once they put the IV in, it felt like literally two seconds passed and then suddenly I was awake again, procedure done. It was weirdly anticlimactic!
Afterward though, I definitely felt groggy and kinda loopy for a couple hours. Apparently, I kept trying to tell the nurse about my dog (poor lady probably heard way more than she wanted to know 😂). But that feeling wore off pretty quickly once I got home and rested a bit.
I get why you're worried though... sedation sounds scary because it's so unfamiliar. Just from personal experience though, it turned out way less stressful than I'd imagined. Hope your son's appointment goes smoothly!
My daughter had sedation for dental work when she was about 7, and honestly, it wasn't bad at all. She was definitely groggy afterward—like sleepy and kinda confused. She kept asking me the same questions over and over again on the drive home, which was actually pretty funny (she still gets embarrassed when we tease her about it now, haha). But that faded pretty quick after she had a nap at home.
I totally understand the anxiety though...it's nerve-wracking when it's your kid. But kids bounce back super fast, way faster than adults do from sedation, in my experience. She was back to her normal self by dinner time. Maybe have some easy snacks and a favorite movie ready for afterward? That helped us a lot. Good luck, hope everything goes smoothly!

Totally agree with this! My niece had sedation a couple years ago for some dental stuff, and she was groggy and a little loopy afterward too—kept giggling at literally nothing, haha. But by evening she was already back to playing and acting like nothing happened. Kids really do recover so quickly...it's pretty amazing. Sounds like you have a great plan with snacks and movies ready, that's exactly what we did. You've got this!
Reading these experiences is actually pretty reassuring. My son has to go under sedation next week for some dental work, and I've been pretty anxious about it. I know logically that kids handle this stuff better than adults, but still...it's hard not to worry a bit, you know?
"kept giggling at literally nothing, haha."
Haha, that's cute. I hope my little guy reacts similarly—I'd much rather see him giggling than upset or scared afterward. Snacks and movies sound like a good distraction too; I'll definitely have his favorites lined up just in case. Thanks for sharing your niece's experience—it helps hearing from others who've been through it already.
