Had a deep cleaning session yesterday and my gums are still pretty tender today, especially when eating or brushing. Um, anyone know how long this usually lasts or have tips to speed things up?

Honestly, tenderness after a deep cleaning can linger a bit longer than you'd expect. Mine felt sensitive for almost a week once, especially around certain teeth. But speeding things up... I'm not sure that's really possible. Your gums need time to heal naturally, and rushing it might just irritate them more. Maybe stick to softer foods and gentle brushing for now? Patience is key here, even if it's annoying.

Yeah, tenderness after deep cleaning is pretty common. Mine usually lasted around 3-4 days, but once it stretched to almost a week. Like mentioned earlier:

"Maybe stick to softer foods and gentle brushing for now?"

Definitely agree with this. Warm saltwater rinses helped me a lot too—seemed to soothe things quicker. Hang in there, it'll ease up soon enough...

Reading all this makes me a bit nervous honestly...my daughter just had her first deep cleaning yesterday, and she's been complaining quite a bit about soreness. We've been doing the soft foods thing, but haven't tried saltwater rinses yet—thanks for mentioning that. I'll definitely give it a shot tonight.

But I'm wondering, did anyone else's dentist recommend any specific pain relievers or gels? Ours didn't really mention anything, and now I'm second-guessing if I should've asked more questions. I just hate seeing her uncomfortable and want to make sure we're doing everything right. Maybe I'm overthinking it (wouldn't be the first time...), but I'd feel better knowing if others had similar advice from their dentists or if there's something else we could try.

My dentist actually recommended using a gentle antiseptic mouthwash for a few days after my deep cleaning. Helped a lot with soreness and inflammation. Saltwater's good too, but mouthwash felt a bit more soothing for me personally.
