Switching to floss picks totally changed my nightly routine

Totally get what you mean about consistency over technique—if my kid’s actually flossing without a meltdown, I call that a win. Haven’t tried the silicone picks yet, partly because I’m already drowning in stuff to wash. And yeah, those teeth are definitely getting tighter here too... makes me miss the days when you could just swipe and be done.

My kid’s just starting to get those “grown-up” teeth in and, wow, I didn’t expect flossing to get so dramatic. I totally relate to the meltdown thing—if we make it through without tears (from either of us), I’m calling it a victory. I’ve only used the regular string floss so far, but honestly, it’s a battle every night. Are the floss picks really that much easier for kids? Or do they just end up chewing on them and tossing them across the room?

I’ve seen those silicone ones at the store, but I wasn’t sure if they actually work or if they’re just another thing I’ll find under the couch later. Do you find they clean as well as regular floss? Sometimes I worry about missing stuff between those tighter teeth, especially now that my kiddo’s mouth is looking more like a shark’s.

Anyway, if there’s something out there that makes this routine less of a struggle (and doesn’t add to my pile of things to wash), I’m all ears.

Honestly, I was skeptical about floss picks too, but they made a big difference for us. My daughter definitely tried to chew on them at first (and yeah, a few ended up under the couch), but she was way more willing to try than with regular string. The silicone ones felt kind of gimmicky to me—didn’t seem to get between her tighter teeth as well. I’d say stick with the regular floss picks for now; they’re not perfect, but if it cuts down on the drama, totally worth it. You’re not alone in this shark-teeth struggle... it gets easier!

Yeah, regular floss picks have been a game changer for us too. My son’s more likely to actually use them, even if he sometimes just waves them around first. I did notice the cost adds up compared to string floss, but it’s still cheaper than extra dental work. We tried the silicone ones, but they didn’t do much for tight spots, and he just chewed on them anyway. If it means less fighting at bedtime, I’ll take it.

I get what you mean about the picks making things easier with kids, but I actually found them kind of tricky with braces. The regular ones just don’t fit under the wires for me, so I ended up going back to the old-school string floss with a threader. Have you tried those? It’s a bit more work, but I feel like it gets in all the tight spots. Curious if anyone’s had better luck with the picks and braces, honestly.
