Sometimes it feels like you need a raincoat just to get through your nightly routine.

That’s exactly why I gave up on my water flosser. It felt more like cleaning the bathroom than my teeth half the time. Floss picks are way less hassle for me, too. I haven’t noticed any downside—if anything, my gums seem less irritated now that I’m actually sticking with it. Mixing in those little brushes sometimes helps with the spots my picks miss, but honestly, whatever keeps things simple is what works for me.

That’s actually a really solid approach. I’ve seen people get hung up on using the “perfect” method and then just give up altogether. Floss picks are way better than nothing, and those little interdental brushes can cover a lot of ground. Did you notice any difference in plaque or tartar since you switched? Sometimes water flossers do get hyped up, but if you’re seeing less gum irritation, that’s a win in my book.

I totally get the urge to keep things simple—honestly, if it’s too complicated, I know I’ll just bail halfway through the week. Floss picks are such a game changer for me too. I used to try the “old school” string floss and, not gonna lie, I’d end up with sore fingers and half the time I’d skip spots because I was rushing. Picks at least make it quick enough that I’m actually consistent now.

I do kind of worry sometimes that picks aren’t *quite* as thorough as regular floss, especially in those tight spots. But like you said, adding those tiny brushes fills in the gaps (literally). I started using them after my hygienist mentioned I had a couple stubborn areas where plaque was hiding out. They’re a little awkward at first—like, who knew my teeth had so many weird angles?—but once I got the hang of it, it really did make a difference. Less bleeding, less “you missed a spot” comments at my checkups.

Funny thing is, I tried a water flosser once because everyone online swears by them… and I basically sprayed my whole bathroom. Not exactly the relaxing bedtime routine I was hoping for. Maybe I’m just clumsy, but I went right back to picks and brushes.

I haven’t noticed a huge change in tartar buildup since switching, but my gums look less puffy and feel less sore in the mornings. That’s honestly enough for me. Still get nervous before every cleaning though—some habits die hard, I guess.

If it’s working for you and you’re not dreading your nightly routine, that’s a win in my book. Dental stuff always feels like a moving target anyway; what works one year might totally change the next.
