Honestly, I’ve found those wooden picks can sometimes push stuff further between my kid’s teeth if I’m not careful. We switched to a nylon tape (not the string kind) and it slides better, even in tight spots. Not perfect, but less frustration.

Interesting, I’ve actually wondered if the tape style would work better for my own teeth. The wooden picks always feel like they’re wedging things tighter, not helping. Is the nylon tape reusable at all or is it single-use? I’m kind of stuck between wanting less plastic waste and not wanting to deal with splinters...

I totally get the struggle. I tried reusing the tape once (just to see), but honestly, it got kinda frayed and didn’t feel clean, so I tossed it. The wooden picks always freaked me out—I had a tiny splinter get stuck in my gums once and it was NOT fun. Has anyone tried those silk flosses? I keep seeing them advertised as compostable but I’m skeptical about how well they work, especially with braces.

I’ve been eyeing those silk flosses too, but I’m kind of skeptical about them holding up—especially with braces. Feels like they’d just shred or get stuck, but maybe I’m wrong? The plastic waste thing bugs me a lot, though. I tried reusing nylon tape before, but it just felt gross after one go, and honestly, it didn’t seem like it’d clean well a second time.

Wooden picks are a no-go for me too. Had one snap mid-use and that was enough drama for the week. I keep wondering if there’s some tech-y solution out there, like a reusable silicone pick or something, but haven’t found anything convincing yet.

Props for trying to cut down on waste—dental stuff is such a pain to do sustainably. If you do end up trying the silk floss, I’d be curious if it actually works with braces. The eco options always sound great until you actually try them...

Cutting down on plastic with dental stuff is such a headache, honestly. I’ve tried a few “eco” flosses (not silk, though) and they just didn’t hold up for me—especially with all my dental work. I totally get your hesitation about stuff getting stuck in braces. That wooden pick story made me laugh, though... been there, and it’s never fun. If you ever find a silicone option that works, let us know. Feels like every solution has its own tradeoff, but it’s worth trying.
