- I get the frustration with eco floss snapping—been there, and it’s not fun mid-floss.
- That said, I’ve had better luck with silk-based floss (like the ones that come in glass vials). It’s compostable, doesn’t shred as much, and feels a bit sturdier than the corn-based stuff. Not perfect, but a step up from the ones that just fall apart.
- For what it’s worth, I found plastic floss got stuck more often between my tight teeth than the silk kind. Maybe it depends on your teeth spacing?
- Water flossers are another option—no waste, and they honestly get a lot out from between my teeth. Not super portable, but if you’re mostly at home, it might be worth a try.
- I wouldn’t write off all eco options yet. There’s a lot of trial and error, but some brands are getting closer to that “guilt-free but sturdy” sweet spot.
- At the end of the day, I figure imperfect sustainability is better than none... even if it means a few awkward moments with stuck floss.

I’ve tried water flossers, but honestly, they never felt quite as effective for me as traditional floss. Maybe it’s just old habits, but there’s something about that gentle scrape along the gumline I trust more. Silk floss has been a nice compromise—less plastic guilt, and my gums seem happier.
