That first cold swipe actually freaked me out a bit—felt like I’d just licked a frozen pole or something. I hesitated for days before using the metal one because I’d always stuck with the plastic kind. But after a week or so, I noticed my mouth felt cleaner, and my breath was way better. Still get a little anxious every morning, but it’s not as bad as I expected. The cleaning part is definitely easier, too. I guess it’s just one of those things you have to get used to, even if it feels weird at first.

Totally get where you’re coming from. I remember switching to a metal one and thinking, “why am I voluntarily torturing myself every morning?” But yeah, the clean-mouth feeling is worth it. The cold does get less shocking after a while, promise.

Metal tongue cleaners really do take some getting used to. I remember the first week, it felt like an ice-cold shock every time—almost made me want to skip it. But after a while, I stopped noticing the cold, and honestly, nothing beats how fresh your mouth feels afterward. I tell patients it’s a small discomfort for a big payoff.

That’s exactly what happened with me. The first time I tried a metal one, I actually thought maybe I’d wasted my money. I kept thinking, “Couldn’t I just use a spoon or something?”—I mean, those things are cheap and I already have them at home. But I gave it a shot for a couple weeks and yeah, the weird cold feeling faded, but honestly, I’m still not totally sure it’s worth the extra cost over plastic. It's a tiny thing, but when you’re trying to save every bit, even small purchases add up.

Did anyone else try other types first, like plastic or silicone? I’m curious if the metal really works better or if it’s more about personal preference. I keep worrying I’ll drop it and it’ll get all bent out of shape, too...

I totally get the hesitation with metal ones. I started with a plastic tongue cleaner after my braces went on, just because I was paranoid about scratching anything. Honestly, the plastic felt flimsy and barely did anything. When I switched to metal, it was a shock at first—cold and kind of awkward—but it actually got way more gunk off. I get what you mean about cost, but for me, the difference in how clean my mouth felt made it worth it. Haven’t had any bending issues yet, but I do worry about dropping it on the tile...
