I actually had better luck using a webcam for mouth checks—way less awkward than juggling a phone or tablet. The resolution’s not perfect, but at least you can angle it hands-free. Never thought I’d use my laptop for dental selfies, but here we are...

Webcam’s a clever move—never would’ve thought of that, but it makes sense, especially for those awkward angles. I remember during lockdown, I had a patient who used their kid’s gaming headset cam for a veneer check. Not the sharpest image, but it actually helped me spot a tiny issue with their gum line. Sometimes tech surprises you... I do wish webcams had better macro focus, though. Still beats trying to hold your phone in one hand and a mirror in the other.

Totally get what you mean about the awkward angles.

Honestly, that part stressed me out way more than I expected. I tried propping my phone on a stack of books with the front cam, but it kept slipping... Ended up using my laptop webcam too, not perfect but at least both hands were free. Wish someone would invent a proper dental selfie stick or something.

Haha, I totally relate to the phone balancing act... mine kept sliding off whatever I used too. Honestly, I ended up using my tablet propped up by a cereal box—super high-tech, right? Someone really does need to invent a dental selfie stick, for real. You're not alone in the struggle!

I get the struggle with trying to prop up a phone or tablet for those before-and-after pics. I’ve tried the cereal box trick, but honestly, it made me more anxious—like, what if it tips over mid-shot and cracks my screen? Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I ended up just asking my partner to help take the photos instead. Not everyone has someone at home, I know, but for me it took some of the stress out of the whole thing.

I’ve seen people use those little flexible tripods, but even then I worry about knocking it over or not getting the right angle. Sometimes the “DIY” setups just add to my nerves rather than make things easier. If there was a dental selfie stick, I’d probably still be too worried about dropping it in the sink... Maybe I’m overthinking it, but honestly, sometimes low-tech (like another human) feels safer for me than balancing electronics on cereal boxes and hoping for the best.
