[Closed] Noticed my gums acting weird lately

Plus, I feel like the waxed stuff lasts longer somehow? Maybe it's just me being budget-conscious, but I swear I don't go through it as fast as the regular kind.

I get the waxed floss love, but honestly it didn't do much for me. I gave it a solid try after my dentist recommended it, but I felt like it kinda slid around too easily and didn't actually clean as well? Maybe it's just my teeth spacing or something, but I've had better luck using those interdental brushes - they really get into the tough spots. Glad it's working for you guys though...guess everyone's mileage varies when it comes to dental stuff.

Totally get what you mean about the waxed floss sliding around too much...had the same issue when I first got my braces. My orthodontist actually recommended those interdental brushes too, and they were a lifesaver with brackets. Now that I'm braces-free, regular floss works fine again, but I'm noticing my gums are a bit more sensitive lately. Did anyone else notice gum sensitivity changing after orthodontic treatment or switching dental products? Curious if it's just me adjusting or something else going on...

I had something similar happen after getting my braces off - my gums felt super sensitive and even bled a bit when flossing. Freaked me out at first, but my dentist said it's pretty common because your gums are adjusting to the new alignment and different cleaning habits. It did settle down after a few weeks, thankfully. Have you tried switching to a softer toothbrush or maybe a gentler toothpaste? Wonder if that might help ease the sensitivity...

Definitely agree with this suggestion - switching to a softer toothbrush can make a huge difference. After braces, your gums are basically adjusting to their new "freedom," and they're often a bit inflamed or sensitive from the shifting teeth and new brushing angles. A soft-bristled brush helps prevent further irritation while your gums heal.

Also, make sure you're flossing gently. Sometimes after braces, people get a bit enthusiastic (understandably!) about finally being able to floss normally again, and they accidentally irritate their gums even more. Try using gentle, slow movements rather than snapping the floss down between teeth.

If sensitivity continues, you might want to look into toothpaste specifically formulated for sensitive gums - something with potassium nitrate or stannous fluoride can help calm things down. Usually, though, this settles on its own within a few weeks as your gums get used to their new positions. Hang in there...it gets better pretty quickly.

Totally second the flossing gently advice. My daughter was so excited to finally floss normally after getting her braces off, she went a bit overboard and ended up with sore gums for days. We switched her to a softer brush and sensitive toothpaste, and it really helped. Took about two weeks for things to settle down completely, but now she's fine...just takes a little patience.
