Haha, that's a vivid way to put it—I can definitely relate. I had a similar experience a few years ago. My dentist gently pointed out that my gums were receding slightly, and it turned out I was brushing way too hard without even realizing it. Apparently, aggressive brushing can actually cause more harm than good by wearing down the enamel and irritating the gums.

Switching to a softer toothbrush helped me too, but another thing that made a noticeable difference was changing my brushing technique altogether. Instead of the usual back-and-forth scrubbing motion, my dentist recommended using gentle circular motions and angling the brush slightly toward the gum line. Felt weird at first—like I wasn't cleaning thoroughly enough—but after a couple of weeks, my gums felt healthier and less sensitive.

Also, flossing regularly (I know, everyone says it...) really does help keep gums healthy. I used to skip flossing because it seemed tedious, but once I made it part of my nightly routine, my gums stopped acting up as much. If you're already flossing regularly and still noticing issues, you might want to check if your toothpaste is overly abrasive or contains ingredients that irritate your gums. Some whitening toothpastes can be pretty harsh for sensitive mouths.

I totally get this... I used to brush like I was sanding down furniture, lol. My dentist said the same thing about circular motions and softer brushes. Felt super weird at first, but now my gums aren't nearly as angry. Glad it's working for you too!
