"Switching to a softer brush was a smart move."
Definitely agree with this. Took me years to figure out that scrubbing harder wasn't doing me any favors—just making my gums angrier, haha. Softer brushes and gentle circles made a huge difference for me. Also, dental anxiety never fully goes away...been going for decades and still grip the chair arms like I'm on a rollercoaster. Glad you're already seeing improvements though, stick with it.
Same here, softer brushes changed everything for me too. It's funny how we think brushing harder equals cleaner teeth... took me a while to unlearn that habit. Glad you're noticing improvements already, keep it up!

Yeah, totally relate to this. I used to think the same thing—like if my gums weren't hurting a bit afterward, I wasn't doing it right. Took a dentist visit and a gentle scolding (lol) to finally convince me otherwise. Switching to softer brushes definitely helped, but another thing that made a huge difference for me was actually flossing regularly. I know, I know... everyone says it, but honestly, once I got into the habit, my gums felt way healthier and less sensitive.
One thing I'm still curious about though is toothpaste. I've been using a basic fluoride toothpaste forever because it's affordable and seems to do the job, but lately I've seen a lot of talk about specialized toothpastes for gum health or sensitivity. Has anyone tried those? Are they worth the extra cost, or is it mostly marketing hype? I'm always cautious about spending more unless there's a clear benefit, so I'd love to hear if anyone's noticed a real difference after switching.
I totally get the toothpaste confusion. I've always stuck with basic fluoride toothpaste too because it's cheap and does the job, but recently my gums started acting up—like randomly bleeding or feeling sore. My dentist recommended trying one of those sensitivity toothpastes, and honestly, I was skeptical at first. Thought it was just marketing hype to charge extra.
But after about two weeks of using it consistently, I did notice a real difference. My gums felt less irritated, and even drinking cold water wasn't as uncomfortable anymore. Could be placebo effect, sure... but it genuinely seemed to help.

Also completely agree about flossing—it's annoying at first, but once you get into the habit, your gums really do thank you later. I'd say if your gums are acting weird lately, trying out a specialized toothpaste might be worth a shot for a month or so just to see if it helps you too.
Totally relate to the skepticism about sensitivity toothpaste...I was exactly the same way. But after my dentist nudged me toward it, I gave it a shot, and weirdly enough, it did help. Took about three weeks for me to notice though, not two—guess my gums were being stubborn, lol. And yeah:
"Switching to softer brushes definitely helped"
This was a game changer for me too. Flossing regularly is still my biggest challenge, but when I stick with it, my gums definitely feel way better.
