If you're finding them insufficient, maybe it's worth exploring a mouthwash specifically formulated for sensitive gums—something with mild antiseptic properties or aloe vera to soothe irritation....

I completely agree about gels sometimes covering up the real issue. I used to rely on those numbing gels myself, but they got pricey pretty quickly, and honestly, the relief never lasted long. Switching to saltwater rinses was a budget-friendly game changer for me—less instant gratification, sure, but way better in the long run. Silicone picks were also gentler on my gums than regular interdental brushes, so that's solid advice too. Definitely worth trying before spending more money on gels...

Haha, saltwater rinses are like the unsung heroes of dental care. I always joke with my patients that it's the cheapest mouthwash they'll ever buy (and bonus: no weird neon colors). Aloe-based rinses can be soothing too, but honestly, nothing beats good ol' saltwater for calming angry gums. Just don't swallow it... learned that lesson the hard way once.

Totally agree with this. Saltwater rinses might not have fancy packaging or minty freshness, but they're seriously underrated. When my gums acted up after getting braces, nothing soothed them better than a warm saltwater rinse—cheap, effective, and no weird chemical aftertaste. OTC gels are handy for quick relief, but long-term comfort? Saltwater all the way. Just gotta avoid accidentally gargling it... been there, done that, not fun.

Saltwater rinses definitely have their merits—I remember using them after a wisdom tooth extraction, and they did help keep things calm and clean without irritation. But I wonder if they're always enough for persistent gum sensitivity? I've been dealing with ongoing gum inflammation myself, and my dentist recently recommended an OTC gel containing hyaluronic acid. Apparently, it helps rebuild gum tissue and soothe inflammation more directly. Haven't tried it yet, though... still reading up on studies to see if it's worth the switch from my trusty saltwater routine.

Has anyone here had experience with these gels long-term? I'm particularly curious about whether they genuinely address underlying gum issues or just temporarily mask discomfort.

I've been wondering the same thing about those gels. Saltwater rinses are great for temporary relief, but I don't think they really tackle deeper inflammation issues long-term. My dentist mentioned hyaluronic acid gels too, said they're supposed to help regenerate gum tissue or something along those lines. Haven't tried it myself yet either... still skeptical if it's just another temporary fix or actually helps gums heal properly. Curious to hear from someone who's used it consistently over time.
