I switched to a super soft brush and it’s made a difference, but I still get paranoid about missing something.

Totally get that—switching to a softer brush is underrated. Sometimes those sore spots you mentioned are just from brushing a little too hard or even biting your cheek in your sleep... It’s not always a sign of something bad, especially if they heal fast. The glossy gum thing can actually be an early sign of inflammation, so you’re on the right track watching out for that. It’s wild how subtle the changes can be before things get serious.

I always thought my gums looked “shiny” just from toothpaste, but turns out that’s not always a good thing. I get paranoid too—like, is that spot just from pizza crust or something worse? Still, I’d rather catch it early than ignore it and stress later.

Been there—thought the same for ages, honestly. It’s easy to brush off weird spots as just food or brushing too hard. I get the paranoia, but it’s way cheaper to stay alert and do little check-ins than pay for big dental stuff later. I started using my phone camera every couple weeks to track changes... not fancy, but helps me spot if something’s really off or just a one-off from crunchy bread. You’re definitely not alone stressing about it.

That’s actually pretty clever. I never would've thought to use my phone for that, but now that my kid's getting adult teeth in, I might have to steal your idea. It’s wild how subtle gum changes can be—and sometimes it’s just a weird snack, other times it’s the start of something bigger. I do wonder if I’m overthinking every little red patch, though... anyone else feel like they’re turning into a part-time dentist at home?

I totally get what you mean about feeling like a part-time dentist. When my kids were younger, I swear I spent more time peering into mouths than actually eating dinner. It’s easy to overthink every little spot or color change, but honestly, I’d rather catch something early than miss it. That phone camera trick is gold—I started doing it for myself after some gum issues in my 60s, and it saved me a lot of “was that there last week?” moments. Sometimes it’s just a bit of tomato sauce making things look redder... other times, it’s worth checking in with the real pros.
