Feeling stuck between another root canal or just pulling the tooth?

I get where you’re coming from—root canals are a big investment, and nobody wants to feel like they’re just throwing money at a tooth that might not last. That said, I wouldn’t write off implants just because of one horror story. Complications do happen, but they’re not the norm for most folks. Actually, I’ve seen a lot of people who had a rough time with their root canal teeth (cracks, repeated infections, you name it) and were relieved once they switched to an implant.

On the flip side, if your patched-up molar is holding its own and not bothering you, there’s nothing wrong with sticking it out. Just keep in mind that if it ever does give up the ghost, having a backup plan (and maybe setting aside that “tooth savings account” for real) isn’t the worst idea. Everyone’s mouth is different...sometimes “good enough” really is enough, but sometimes it’s worth thinking about what’ll give you peace of mind in the long run.

- Been there—felt like I was deciding between two bad movies: sequels or a total reboot.
- My root canal molar lasted about 5 years before it started acting up again (sensitive, random aches). Dentist warned me it might not hold forever, but I really wanted to keep my own tooth as long as possible.
- Ended up pulling it when the infection came back. I was worried about the whole implant process (cost, healing time, will it feel weird?), but honestly, the implant’s been way less drama than that molar ever was. Feels totally normal now.
- That said, if your tooth isn’t bugging you, no harm in waiting it out. Just keep an eye on it—don’t let things fester until it’s an emergency (been there, not fun).
- One thing I wish I’d done: put a little aside each month for “tooth emergencies.” Those bills sneak up fast.
- Everyone’s mouth is different, but I get wanting to avoid more dental chair time. Sometimes “good enough” really is good enough...until it isn’t.

I’m always torn between “save the tooth at all costs” and “just get it out and move on.” Did you find the implant healing process super rough? That’s my big worry—plus, the cost is no joke. Keeping my own tooth feels right, but I know sometimes it’s just dragging out the inevitable. Do you notice the implant at all, or is it totally forgettable now? I keep picturing it’ll feel weird forever...

Honestly, I was worried the implant would feel super weird too, but after a few months, I barely notice it unless I’m thinking about it. The healing part wasn’t as bad as I expected—some soreness, but nothing wild. Cost sucked, not gonna lie. I get wanting to keep your own tooth, but dragging it out with endless fixes drove me nuts. If you do go for the implant, it really does start to feel like just another tooth after a while.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’m still team “keep the tooth” if it’s even remotely possible. I had an implant put in after my molar just gave up on life (thanks, failed root canal), and yeah, it works, but I swear it never feels exactly the same. Maybe it’s just in my head, but I always notice it when I’m chewing something crunchy. Plus, the whole “metal in your jaw” thing kinda weirded me out for a while.

Did anyone else feel like the healing took forever? Mine was sore for months, and my dentist kept saying that’s “normal.” Maybe I’m just impatient. Anyway, is it really that much better to go through the implant hassle than to try one more root canal? Or am I just stubbornly hanging onto my teeth like they’re old USB cables I’ll never use again?
