I’ve always found it helps to list out my questions before the appointment—makes me feel a bit more in control when things get stressful. Ice cream is great, but I usually go for something savory after, like mashed potatoes. Curious if anyone else has a go-to comfort food after dental work?

Mashed potatoes after dental work? Now we're talking. I mean, ice cream is the classic, but honestly, I always end up with a brain freeze and a weird aftertaste if I go overboard. Savory foods like mashed potatoes or even mac and cheese just feel more satisfying after all that poking and prodding. Plus, they don't melt all over your face if you're still numb—learned that the hard way with a milkshake once... Not my finest moment.

Mashed potatoes are the real MVP after dental work—can confirm. I tried the ice cream route once and just ended up shivering and regretting my life choices. Honestly, anything warm and soft is a win. I did try mac and cheese, but those little pasta bits got stuck everywhere... not ideal when you’re already feeling like a chipmunk. Anyone else get weirdly paranoid about food getting trapped after all that?

Yeah, the food paranoia is real. After my wisdom teeth came out, I was basically living on mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs. Tried rice once—big mistake, those little grains were like ninjas, hiding everywhere. My step-by-step survival: 1) stick to stuff you can smoosh with your tongue, 2) rinse like your life depends on it, and 3) accept that you’ll be checking your mouth in every mirror you pass. It’s a glamorous life, really...

My kid had to get a tooth pulled last year, and the whole food thing was an adventure. He was so determined to eat “real food” that he tried to sneak a chicken nugget on day two—yeah, we learned the hard way about tiny breading bits getting stuck. I swear, I became an expert in blending things I never thought could be blended. Mac and cheese was a hit, but only if it was basically soup.

Honestly, the mouth-rinsing routine turned into a family event. We’d all line up at the sink after meals, swishing and making faces. The paranoia is real—I found myself checking his mouth with a flashlight more times than I’d like to admit. And the mirror thing? He started carrying a pocket mirror around like some kind of secret agent.

It’s not glamorous, but at least there’s a little humor in it. If nothing else, we both got really creative with smoothies... and I have a new respect for applesauce.
