I'm stuck in a bit of a dental dilemma here. Dentist says my old root canal tooth is acting up again and gave me two options—either retreating it (redo the root canal) or just pulling it out and going for an implant later. Honestly, the idea of going through another root canal isn't exactly thrilling, you know? But losing a tooth permanently feels kinda drastic too. Anyone been through either of these? Curious which route you'd take and how it turned out for you.

I feel your pain—literally. Had a similar issue last year, and honestly, implants sound great until you see the price tag. Have you checked if your insurance covers implants at all? Mine barely covered anything, so I ended up redoing the root canal. Wasn't fun, but it was cheaper and less stressful in the long run. Still anxious it'll flare up again though... Did your dentist say how likely a retreatment is to last?

I completely agree that implants tend to come with a hefty price tag, and sadly, insurance often doesn’t help much. Redoing a root canal can be a good option, especially if the tooth structure is still solid and infection isn't severe. Did your dentist mention anything about the condition of the surrounding bone? In my experience, retreatments can last quite a while if done properly, but success really depends on factors like tooth location and overall oral health... Definitely worth asking more about before making a final call.

Yeah, retreatments can definitely be solid if the tooth isn't too compromised. Did your dentist say anything about cracks or fractures? I've seen cases where even minor hairline cracks can really impact the success rate... might wanna double-check that before committing.
