Which is better: letting a retreatment heal naturally or pushing for a quick fix?

“There were days I thought, ‘Did I make a mistake not just fixing it right away?’ But honestly, the pain never got worse and I saved a chunk of cash.”

I get wanting to avoid big dental bills, but sometimes waiting it out can backfire. My cousin left a cracked filling alone and it turned into a root canal situation months later. No pain at first, but then it hit hard. I guess it really depends, but I tend to lean toward fixing things before they get worse. Teeth don’t always give you warning signs, unfortunately.

Yeah, teeth are sneaky like that. I waited on a little chip once because it didn’t hurt, and then out of nowhere it started throbbing right before a holiday weekend—worst timing ever. Is it just me, or do dental problems always pick the worst possible moment?

I get super anxious about waiting, but my dentist said sometimes letting things “settle” can help, depending on what’s going on. I still worry, though—what if it suddenly gets worse? The idea of a quick fix sounds nice, but then I think… what if that’s just rushing it? I wish teeth came with warning lights or something.

That’s exactly what’s been running through my head lately. I keep wondering if waiting just gives things a chance to heal or if it’s just delaying the inevitable. My dentist also mentioned “letting it settle,” but I can’t help imagining the pain suddenly flaring up at the worst possible moment. Has anyone had a situation where waiting actually made things better, or did you end up needing the fix anyway? It’s tough not having any real way to know what’s happening inside your tooth...

Ugh, I’m in the same boat—just got told to “let it settle” and now every twinge has me convinced my tooth’s plotting against me. Has anyone actually had a tooth calm down after waiting, or is this just dentist code for “brace yourself”? I keep picturing myself biting into a sandwich and suddenly regretting all my life choices…
