How much brushing should a young child do alone?
Discussion options
How do you balance letting a young child brush independently with making sure every tooth gets cleaned? I’m curious how parents and dentists judge readiness as hand coordination develops.
Do you take turns brushing, or let the child brush and then have an adult check or finish? What signs suggest it’s time to give them more of the brushing themselves?

Being eager to brush is a good start, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they can reach every surface yet. You could hand over a few sections at a time, then let an adult finish the spots they miss until they’re reliably getting them all.
