That’s pretty much how it went with my nephews, too—one loved the “robot brush,” the other wouldn’t go near it after the first try. I’m still a manual fan because it just feels more natural, but I can see why the timers are a game-changer, especially for kids who rush through brushing. I do wonder if the noise and vibration are a sensory thing for some kids? Either way, I figure whatever gets them to actually brush is a win.

Interesting point about the sensory side of things—my niece is super sensitive to sounds, and she flat-out refused the electric brush after a couple tries. I wonder if there are quieter models out there or if certain brands are better for kids who get overwhelmed by noise? Manual just seems less intimidating for her, but the built-in timer on electrics does seem handy. Does anyone notice a difference in how well their kids actually clean their teeth with one versus the other?

My kiddo was the same—she hated the buzzing sound, said it “tickled her brain.” We switched to a manual brush and honestly, her teeth seemed just as clean. I do miss the timer though. Has anyone actually found a quieter electric?

My youngest called it “brain tickles” too—cracks me up every time. We tried a bunch of electrics, but honestly, even the “whisper quiet” ones still made enough noise to freak her out. Manual’s been fine for us, though I do kinda miss the timer nagging her to keep going. I just set a song on my phone now... not exactly high-tech, but it works. If you ever find a truly silent electric, let me know, because I’m starting to think it’s like finding a unicorn.

Right? I swear I’ve tried almost every “quiet” electric on the market and my son still acts like we’re running a lawnmower next to his ear. He’s super sensitive to noise, so we ended up going back to manual too. I do kinda miss the built-in timer, though. The song trick is smart—sometimes we use the chorus of his favorite song as a signal to switch sides.

Honestly, I used to think electric was the only way to get him brushing long enough (and well enough), but manual’s been less stressful for everyone. He’s more willing to brush and doesn’t dread it as much. I guess technique matters more than the gadget itself, at least for us.

Funny thing—I actually tried those silicone finger brushes when he was younger because he’d call regular bristles “spiky monsters.” Turns out, whatever gets them brushing without a meltdown is a win in my book.

If someone ever invents a silent electric, I’ll be first in line. Until then, I’ll stick with whatever keeps the peace and gets the job done... even if it means humming “Baby Shark” twice a day.
