That’s interesting about the prep time—I’ve noticed that too. My grandkids had their sealants done at the dentist, and they were really particular about drying everything, which took a while. I wonder if the school clinics just have to move so fast because of all the kids waiting. Has anyone had sealants actually last from a school clinic? I’m curious if it’s more hit-or-miss or if there’s something specific that helps them last.

That’s a good point. I’ve seen both sides—my nephew got his sealants at a school clinic and they were done super quickly, but honestly, his lasted about two years before they started chipping. At our family dentist, my own kids’ sealants stuck around much longer. The key seems to be how dry they keep the teeth during application. If there’s any moisture, the sealant just doesn’t bond as well. School clinics do their best, but with so many kids lined up, it can be tough to get that perfect dry surface every time. Still, even short-term protection is better than none, especially if cost is an issue.

I get what you’re saying, but I still worry about how fast they have to work in the school clinics. My anxiety goes through the roof just thinking about rushed dental stuff. I know some protection’s better than none, but I wonder if it gives a false sense of security... I’d probably still want my kid to get checked at a regular dentist too, just in case.

You’re not alone worrying about the pace in school clinics. I’ve seen both sides—sometimes they do have to move quickly, but the techs are usually well-trained and the sealants themselves are pretty straightforward. Still, nothing really replaces a good checkup at a regular office. I tell parents: school sealants are a solid backup, especially if cost is tight, but don’t skip those dentist visits. I’ve caught cavities under sealants before, just because things can get missed when it’s busy.

I totally get the worry about stuff getting missed when things are rushed. My nephew got sealants at a school clinic, and it was quick—maybe too quick? Later, his dentist found a cavity hiding underneath. Has anyone had issues with sealants popping off early?
