So I'm scheduled to get braces next week and I'm a little freaked out tbh...heard some people say it hurts like crazy at first and others said it's just uncomfortable. Anyone got tips on dealing with that first bit of soreness?

Totally understandable to feel nervousβit's a big step, and everyone's experience is a bit different. From what I've seen with patients, the first few days can definitely be uncomfortable, but rarely would I describe it as unbearable pain. Usually, it's more of a dull ache or pressure as your teeth start adjusting.
A few things that seem to help: soft foods (think smoothies, mashed potatoes, yogurt), over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen (if your dentist says it's okay), and using orthodontic wax if brackets irritate your cheeks or lips. Also, rinsing gently with warm salt water can soothe any irritation inside your mouth.
The good news is that the soreness typically peaks around day two or three and then gradually eases off. Most people adjust surprisingly quickly. Hang in thereβyou've got this!
