I just read this article yesterday about how gum disease might actually mess with your heart. Apparently, bacteria from unhealthy gums can somehow travel into your bloodstream and cause inflammation, which isn't great news for your ticker. Kinda freaked me out honestly, because I never really thought flossing had anything to do with my heart. Anyone else heard about this or think it's legit? I'm not sure if it's just another scare tactic or something worth worrying about...
Yeah, it's actually pretty legit. There's been quite a bit of research linking gum disease to heart issuesβmostly because inflammation from bacteria can affect your arteries and heart valves over time. It's not like skipping flossing once will doom your heart or anything, but keeping gums healthy is definitely more important than most people realize. I used to slack on flossing too until my dentist explained this connection...now I'm annoyingly diligent about it, haha.
