Had my implant surgery three days ago and my cheek is still super puffy. Not really hurting, but it looks like I’ve been punched. Is this just standard healing or should I be worried about infection? What was recovery like for you?

That puffy look is honestly pretty common. I remember after mine, my face was so swollen I barely recognized myself in the mirror.

Not really hurting, but it looks like I’ve been punched.
Same here—mine didn’t hurt much, just looked rough for a while. For me, the swelling peaked around day 3-4 before it started calming down. If you don’t have pain, fever, or weird drainage, it’s probably just your body doing its thing. Still, I iced a ton and kept my head elevated, which helped a bit. Hang in there; the bruising and swelling can be stubborn but usually fade after a week or so.

Honestly, I get a little nervous every time someone mentions swelling after implants—even though yeah, it’s super common. I remember the first time I had a patient come back looking like they’d been in a bar fight. No pain, just really puffy and bruised. It freaked me out more than them, honestly. But as long as there’s no crazy pain or gunky drainage, it usually settles down in a week or so. Still, I always tell people to keep an eye out—sometimes things look “normal” but can turn on you fast. Guess I’m just cautious by nature…

Yeah, that swelling can look pretty wild at first. I was honestly shocked after my own implant—felt like I’d wasted money if something was wrong. But it faded in a few days, just like you said. The bruising was probably the worst part for me, but it didn’t hurt much, just looked rough. I do agree it’s smart to keep an eye on things, especially if you’re like me and trying to avoid extra appointments (and bills). My dentist told me as long as I wasn’t running a fever or getting weird drainage, it was all part of the process. Still, I checked in with them just to be safe—better than paying for a fix later. I think being cautious is just practical, especially with how much these things cost.

Honestly, the swelling made me look like a chipmunk storing snacks for winter. I was half-expecting my neighbors to ask if I’d joined a boxing club. Mine stuck around for almost a week, but didn’t hurt much either—just super awkward for video calls. I kept poking at my cheek in the mirror, convinced it was growing. Didn’t have fever or anything funky leaking out, so my dentist said it was just part of the fun. The bruising faded before the swelling did, which felt backwards to me. Dental stuff is weird.
