Invisalign vs Regular Braces: Which One Hurts Less?

I recently switched from traditional braces to Invisalign, and I figured I'd share a little tip that helped me manage the discomfort. With regular braces, tightening days were always the worstβ€”felt like my teeth were being squeezed by tiny angry elves, lol. But with Invisalign, it's more of a constant dull ache when you pop in a new tray. Weirdly, chewing sugar-free gum for a few minutes after putting in a new aligner seems to ease the soreness a bit. I guess it helps seat the aligner better or something? Dunno exactly why, but it works for me.

Curious if anyone else has found little hacks or tricks to make either braces or Invisalign less annoying. Or maybe you think one hurts way more than the other? I'm kinda on the fence still...

Interesting tip about the gum, hadn't heard that one before. When I had traditional braces years ago, ice water was my go-to pain reliefβ€”helped numb things just enough to get through those rough tightening days. Invisalign seems gentler overall, but I've heard from friends the ache can linger longer. Wondering if anyone noticed differences in how quickly you adapt to each new Invisalign tray? Maybe it's just personal tolerance levels...

Yeah, ice water was my lifesaver too with regular braces. With Invisalign, I've noticed the soreness isn't as sharp but definitely sticks around longer. Usually takes me about 2-3 days to fully adjust to a new tray...guess everyone's mileage varies though.

Totally relate to that lingering soreness you're describing. I switched from regular braces to Invisalign a few months ago, and honestly, the dull ache with each new tray makes me a bit anxious every time. It's not as intense as the braces tightening days (thank goodness), but it does seem to hang around longer, like you said. I've found warm tea helps me relax a bitβ€”maybe it's just psychological comfort, but hey, whatever works, right? Glad I'm not alone in this!
