Does switching to vaping actually help your teeth and gums?

I used to think switching to vaping would be a win for my gums, but after a few months, my dentist was still giving me that “concerned” look.

I hear you on that. I switched over hoping my gums would thank me, but honestly, the dry mouth thing got old fast. My dentist mentioned that less staining is nice, but dry mouth can actually make gum problems worse if you’re not careful. I started using sugar-free gum and rinsing more often, which helped a bit. Still, those sweet flavors are rough—makes me crave water like crazy. It’s wild how it’s always a trade-off, isn’t it?

That dry mouth side effect really sneaks up on you, doesn’t it? I’ve noticed the same—less yellowing, but my mouth feels like the Sahara half the time. My hygienist pointed out that saliva’s actually a big deal for keeping your gums healthy, so when vaping dries things out, it can mess with that natural protection. I’ve been carrying a water bottle everywhere and chewing xylitol gum, but it’s still not quite the same as before.

One thing I’m curious about: has anyone actually seen their gum health improve after switching from smoking to vaping? For me, it’s kind of a mixed bag. I don’t have that smoker’s breath anymore, but my gums still bleed sometimes when I floss. Maybe it just takes longer to see real changes... or maybe it’s just trading one set of problems for another. Anyone else get feedback from their dentist that surprised them after making the switch?
