[Closed] my dentist warned me vaping could mess up my smile, but I didn't think much of it until yesterday.

"She found that cutting back on acidic flavors (like citrus or sour candy) helped a lot too."

Yeah, I noticed something similar when I started vaping regularly. My gums got super sensitive, especially around my braces... freaked me out a bit honestly. Switching flavors helped, but now I'm paranoid about every little ache, haha.

I went through something similar when I had braces and vaped occasionally... gums felt tender and weirdly sensitive. My ortho mentioned vaping dries out your mouth, which can irritate gums more easily. Drinking more water and using a gentle mouthwash helped me a lot.

I get what you're saying about vaping drying out your mouth, but honestly, I vaped pretty regularly during my braces phase and didn't notice much difference in gum sensitivity. For me, it was more about the type of vape juice—some flavors seemed harsher than others. Switching to milder flavors helped a bit. But yeah, hydration definitely matters... I just think the flavoring might play a bigger role than people realize.

Interesting point about the flavoring—I hadn't really considered that angle before. My kid recently got braces, and the dentist also mentioned vaping could affect gum health or tooth sensitivity. Honestly, I wasn't exactly clear on how vaping specifically interacts with braces or oral health in general. The drying out makes sense, since saliva protects your teeth, but now I'm wondering if certain vape juice ingredients or additives might be more irritating than others?

Like you said, some flavors felt harsher—do you think it's the nicotine content itself or maybe certain flavor additives causing irritation? I remember reading somewhere that citrus or minty flavors can be more acidic or irritating to gums, but not sure how accurate that is... Curious if anyone's dentist has mentioned specific ingredients to watch out for.

My dentist actually mentioned something similar about minty flavors being irritating. Apparently, menthol and cinnamon flavors can be especially harsh on gums or sensitive teeth...not sure if it's acidity or just the additives themselves, but it definitely made me reconsider my flavor choices.
