I’m unsure how much pressure is needed to clean the inner surface of a removable denture without scratching it or affecting its fit. Do people generally brush with a denture brush as well as use a soaking cleanser, or does the right routine depend on the denture material?

I’d also like to know whether the advice changes for full versus partial dentures, especially if a partial has metal parts. Which brush and cleanser types are safe for those surfaces, and what should you avoid if the routine seems to leave the denture rough or irritates your mouth?

I’m trying to compare the total cost of a professional reline with replacing dentures. A reline seems worth considering when the base and teeth are otherwise in good shape, but I’m unsure when worn teeth, a poor fit, or the age of the dentures makes replacement better value.

For anyone who’s had quotes, did they include:

- Examination and fit assessment
- New impressions
- Laboratory reline work
- Adjustments after fitting
- Follow-up visits if the denture still feels uncomfortable

Did the quoted price cover all of that, or were some items added later? Also, what signs made your dentist recommend replacement instead of a reline?

Chewing on a sandwich and suddenly feeling my top plate wobble was a low point, let me tell you. After that, I got pretty obsessed with figuring out how to keep my dentures from sliding around. Here’s my step-by-step - maybe it’ll help someone else, or maybe you all have even better tricks.

First thing, I always clean the heck out of my dentures and gums before putting them in. If there’s even a little food gunk left, it seems like the grip is worse. I use a soft brush and sometimes a denture wipe (those little packets are pricey but handy if I’m in a rush).

Next up is adhesive. I’ve tried a bunch - powders, strips, pastes. For me, the paste works best, but not too much or it oozes out the sides (gross). I put three small dabs spaced out along the ridge, then press the denture in and hold it for maybe 30 seconds. I read somewhere that sipping water right after helps it set, so I do that too - no idea if it actually works, but can’t hurt.

After that, I avoid eating or drinking for at least 15 minutes. If I rush it, things get slippery again. Also, I try to chew evenly on both sides, which took some practice. If I bite down too hard on one side (like when eating steak), sometimes the back pops loose.

On days when nothing seems to work, I’ll take them out and start over. Super annoying, but better than worrying about them moving while talking to someone.

Anyone got tips for when adhesives just aren’t cutting it? Or maybe tricks for eating tougher foods without feeling like your teeth are gonna bail? Would love to hear what’s worked for you all - especially if you’ve found something less messy than the pastes.

Supermarket's closed, hotel doesn't have any, and all you've got is regular toothpaste and some mouthwash. Would you just use those, or try some weird DIY trick? Kinda makes me wonder if anyone's ever improvised with stuff like baking soda or salt water. Curious what others would do in a pinch - would you risk it, or just wait it out?

Last weekend I was at a friend's birthday dinner, and it was one of those places that serves steak and corn on the cob - delicious but, um, kind of a nightmare for denture wearers like me. Anyway, I remembered this little trick someone told me ages ago: before you head out, apply a thin layer of denture adhesive (even if you normally don't use it much). Seriously, it makes a huge difference in how secure your dentures feel, especially when you're eating tricky foods or laughing a lot. Also, I always sneak off to the restroom after eating just to quickly rinse my mouth and make sure everything's still comfy and clean. It takes like 30 seconds and saves me from worrying about spinach or something stuck in there, haha.

Curious if anyone else has little tricks or hacks they use when they're out socializing. Dentures can be awkward sometimes, you know?
