Had a root canal done about two weeks ago, and honestly, I thought the worst was behind me. But nope, still getting these random jolts of pain, especially when I bite down or drink something cold. It's driving me nuts... dentist says it's normal and should fade soon, but um, how soon is "soon"? Anyone else been through this and found something that actually helps?

I had my first root canal about a month ago, and honestly, reading your post is giving me flashbacks. I remember those random zaps of painβ€”especially with cold drinks. My dentist said the same thing, that it'd fade soon, but it took almost three weeks before I noticed any real improvement. Did your dentist mention anything about sensitivity toothpaste or something similar? Wondering if that's worth trying or just another gimmick...

I've wondered about those sensitivity toothpastes too... tried one briefly after my crown, but honestly didn't notice much difference. Maybe it depends on the brand or something? Curious if anyone else had better luck with a specific type.

I've tried a couple of sensitivity toothpastes myself after getting braces, and honestly, it felt like a hit or miss kinda thing. One brand did nothing for me, but another one (think it was Sensodyne Rapid Relief?) seemed to help a bit after using it consistently for a week or two. Might be worth giving it another shot with a different type... but yeah, tooth pain is tricky and frustrating. Hang in there, you're definitely not alone in this struggle.

I've had a couple root canals myself, and honestly, sensitivity afterward can linger longer than you'd expect. One time it took nearly a month before I could comfortably chew on that side again. Sensodyne Rapid Relief did help me too, but also avoiding really cold or hot stuff for a while made a noticeable difference. Did your dentist mention anything about adjusting the bite? Sometimes even a tiny adjustment can ease things up quite a bit.
