Did you ever try using a flavored salt, like those pink Himalayan ones? I read somewhere it’s less harsh, but I’m not sure if it actually helps or just smells better.

I actually wondered the same thing after my root canal. I was super nervous about the salt rinse burning or making things worse, so I went with the pink Himalayan stuff. Honestly, I didn’t notice a huge difference taste-wise, but it did feel a little less “stingy” than regular table salt. Maybe it’s just in my head? Has anyone else found a difference with the fancy salts, or is plain old salt just as good?

You’re definitely not imagining it. Some people really do find the Himalayan or sea salts a bit gentler. Table salt can be sharper because of the additives, so if the pink stuff feels better, go for it. The important thing is you’re rinsing—your mouth will thank you either way.

I agree with that. After my last root canal, I switched to sea salt for rinsing and it really did feel less harsh, especially when everything was still sore. Table salt always gave me more of a bite, maybe it’s just me. Either way, gentle rinsing made a difference in my healing—just don’t go overboard with the salt.

Sea salt definitely feels less intense for me too, but I’ll admit I just stick with regular table salt most of the time since it’s cheaper and always in my kitchen. Maybe I’m just used to it? After my last root canal, I was rinsing a couple times a day and it really helped with the swelling. Did anyone’s dentist recommend any special mouthwashes, or is salt water still the go-to for most folks?

I feel like I’m the only one who gets nervous about using just salt water... My dentist actually gave me this fancy blue mouthwash (no idea what was in it, probably unicorn tears) and said to use it for a week after my root canal. I tried salt water once and it made my mouth feel weirdly dry, so I chickened out and went back to the blue stuff. Maybe I’m just paranoid about doing it “wrong” though. Anyone else get anxious about messing up post-root canal care, or am I just overthinking every twinge in my gums?
