Pain only when biting after a root canal: high filling or something else?

I had the root canal completed recently, and the tooth is still sore when I bite down. It doesn’t hurt at rest or with hot and cold, but I’m unsure whether the pain is from the tooth being slightly “high” because of the temporary filling or crown, normal inflammation around the root, or a possible crack.
One detail that may matter: is it more concerning if the pain happens when I release the bite rather than when I’m pressing down? I don’t have fever, swelling, or noticeable looseness. Should I ask the dentist to check the bite promptly, or is this type of bite-only tenderness usually watched for a little while?
