That’s exactly what my kid went through—super cautious at first, especially with crunchy stuff. Here’s what helped: first, we stuck to softer foods for a couple weeks. Then, we gradually added more texture, always checking in to see if there was any discomfort. After about two months, she barely noticed it. But yeah, ice cubes are still a no-go around here, just in case. It’s wild how the mouth just adapts over time.

Yeah, totally get this. I was all about the soft stuff after my root canal too—mashed potatoes and yogurt basically became my food groups. Tried to save money by skipping fancy “recovery food” and just raided my pantry. Crunchy stuff? Didn’t even risk it for a while. Wild how you start trusting your teeth again after a bit, but ice cubes are still on my “nope” list. Teeth are weirdly resilient... but I’m not pushing my luck.

I totally relate to that—ice cubes just feel like tempting fate. Did you notice any foods that surprised you by being harder (or easier) to eat than you expected? For me, even soft bread felt risky at first. Also, how long did it take before you felt comfortable eating normally again? I was super cautious for weeks, maybe too much.

I hear you on the bread—mine was actually bananas, which I thought would be easy, but nope, too mushy and weirdly tough to chew at first. Took me a good month before I stopped second-guessing every bite. It’s wild how cautious we get after dental stuff.

Bananas were the trickiest for my kid too—who knew something so soft could feel so weird to chew? I kept thinking, “This is perfect, right?” but nope, it was like that mush just stuck everywhere and made her nervous to even swallow. Did you try applesauce, or was that just us being overly cautious? We went through a whole phase where I was basically pureeing half the fridge.

I totally relate to the second-guessing. My daughter would kind of hover over her food, like she was waiting for it to bite her back. It’s funny how your brain remembers the pain even when your mouth’s actually fine. Did you notice any foods that surprised you by being easier than expected? For us, scrambled eggs were a lifesaver, but toast was a disaster. Just crumbled everywhere and got stuck in every possible place.

And, honestly, how long did it take before you felt like you could eat “normally” again? I kept wondering if I was being overprotective, but the dentist said it’s normal to be wary for weeks. I guess everyone’s different, but I was low-key counting down the days until pizza was back on the menu.

Were you nervous about brushing near the root canal spot? My kid was so gentle at first, it was almost like she was afraid of waking it up or something. I had to keep reminding her the pain was gone for good. It’s wild how much dental stuff messes with your head, not just your mouth...
