It’s wild how much anxiety I had just thinking about a student working on my teeth, but your post actually makes it sound... kinda reassuring? I always picture them dropping a tool or something, but having a supervising dentist right there does help calm the nerves. I’m still chicken about anything cosmetic though—veneers just seem way too risky for me. But hearing about the extra attention and real savings is tempting. Maybe for a cleaning or filling I could give it a try, if I can work up the courage.

Honestly, I used to feel the exact same way—like, what if something goes wrong and it’s just chaos? But after going to a dental school clinic for a cleaning and a couple of fillings, I’m actually more comfortable there than I expected. The students are super careful (sometimes almost too careful), and the instructors double-check everything. I get why you’d be nervous about veneers or anything big, though. That’s definitely a bigger leap.

But here’s where I’d push back just a little: sometimes the “extra attention” you get in those settings is actually better than what you’d get at a busy private office. I had more time to ask questions and understand what was happening, which made the whole thing way less scary. Still, you’ve gotta do what feels right for you. If a cleaning or filling feels like dipping your toe in, maybe that’s the best place to start. Just don’t write off the idea completely—it might surprise you how chill it can be.

Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. I was super anxious about going to a dental school clinic too—just kept picturing something going wrong or the student getting nervous and messing up. But honestly, when I went in for my root canal, it was way calmer than I thought. The supervising dentist checked every step, and the student explained what was happening, which actually helped me chill out a bit. I still worry about bigger stuff like crowns, but for fillings and cleanings, I felt pretty safe. Guess sometimes all that double-checking pays off... even if it does take a little longer.

My kid had to get a filling done at the dental school, and I was way more nervous than she was, honestly. I kept thinking the same thing—what if the student messes up? But the supervision was super tight, and the student was so patient explaining every step to her (and me). It did take longer, but I felt like all those extra eyes made it safer, not riskier. I still get a bit anxious when anything new comes up, but for the basics, I trust them now. Funny how our worries usually end up being the worst part.

I'm right there with you on the anxiety front. When my dentist first suggested a root canal, I spent a week Googling worst-case scenarios—probably not my smartest move, but hey, curiosity gets the better of us. I actually considered going to a dental school for the cost savings, but kept second-guessing whether I'd be a guinea pig. Reading your experience makes me reconsider, though. The idea of extra supervision sounds less risky when you put it that way. I guess we build up these horror stories in our heads, but in reality, all those checks and balances might make things safer than at a regular office. Still, I’d want to double-check who's peeking over their shoulder during the tough stuff... I guess old habits die hard.
