Totally get you on the dentist’s attitude—makes all the difference. I had one guy who acted like he was racing the clock, barely looked me in the eye. The next dentist I saw actually cracked a joke before starting, which honestly helped more than the numbing gel. As for the noise, I’m with you… tried headphones, but then I just worried I’d miss them calling my name or something. The relief after? Man, I could’ve hugged the whole staff. The bill, not so much… but at least I could eat again without seeing stars.

The dentist’s attitude really does set the tone for the whole thing. I’ve had both—the rushed, cold type and the ones who actually take a second to explain what’s happening. That little bit of human connection makes it so much less stressful. As for the noise, I usually bring one earbud and keep the other ear open... kind of a compromise so I don’t miss my name but can still tune out a bit.

Can’t argue with you on the bill—dental work isn’t cheap. But being able to eat without wincing? Worth every penny in my book.

Totally get what you mean about the dentist’s vibe making or breaking the whole thing. I’ve had both ends of the spectrum too—one guy barely said a word and just dove in, which had me gripping the chair for dear life. The next time, I lucked out with someone who actually chatted and explained stuff, and it made a world of difference.

Noise-wise, I’m with you on the one-earbud trick. Full headphones just stress me out because I can’t hear what’s going on, but some music or a podcast in one ear helps distract from that drill sound (which honestly is the worst part for me).

The bill stings, no doubt. But after months of babying a tooth and then being able to eat ice cream without that zing? I’d pay double... well, maybe not double, but you know what I mean. Worth it for the peace of mind.

I get the whole “worth it for peace of mind” thing, but honestly, the price still bugs me. Maybe I’m just cheap, but the bill almost gave me more anxiety than the actual root canal. Also, I can’t do the earbud trick—I end up overthinking every sound, even with music on. Ended up just focusing on breathing and counting ceiling tiles. Not sure I’d call it “not scary,” but yeah, pain’s gone, so there’s that.

Price tag’s a killer, no doubt. I always joke my wallet hurts more than my tooth did. Never managed the earbud trick either—too fiddly, and I end up listening for drills anyway. Ceiling tiles and deep breaths got me through too. At least the pain’s history now.
