Funny you mention the apple thing—my dentist actually warned me about biting straight into anything super hard after I got my crown. Even now, I get this weird flashback to that initial “crack” feeling if I’m about to chomp into something like a carrot. It’s like my brain’s running a risk assessment every time I eat anything crunchier than a sandwich. I guess there’s some logic to it, since crowns and root-canaled teeth aren’t quite as strong as the originals, but sometimes it feels like overkill. Still, better safe than sorry, right?

I totally get what you mean about habits sticking around. After my root canal, I started cutting everything smaller—apples, steak, even pizza sometimes (which feels ridiculous). It’s not even about pain anymore; it’s just this automatic thing. I kind of wish I could switch it off, but then again, I haven’t had any issues with my crown yet, so maybe it’s working out for me.

What surprised me most was how quickly the anxiety faded once the pain was gone. Before the root canal, even chewing on that side made me wince. Now, it’s almost like nothing ever happened… except for those little moments of hesitation when something super crunchy shows up on my plate. My dentist said the tooth should be fine for normal eating, but I still don’t go out of my way to test it with toffee or anything sticky.

Does anyone else get that weird feeling when you forget about your dental work for a second and just eat normally? It’s like a mini victory every time it happens. Maybe eventually I’ll trust my mouth enough to go back to biting straight into apples... or maybe I’ll just keep slicing them forever. Either way, pain-free is such a win—I’ll take a few extra seconds with a knife over that old throbbing any day.

I get wanting to play it safe, but honestly, after a couple months with my crown, I just went back to eating like normal. Maybe I’m reckless, but I’ve bitten into apples and even the occasional crusty baguette with no drama. The dentist did say “don’t chew rocks,” but at some point I figured if it breaks, that’s what insurance is for… right?

I totally get where you’re coming from—once the pain is gone and the crown feels solid, it’s tempting to just go back to normal. I’m always a little nervous, though. My dentist warned me about biting into hard stuff, and even though I want to trust the crown, I keep thinking, “What if it cracks?” Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I’ve stuck with cutting apples and breaking up crusty bread rather than biting straight in.

Insurance definitely helps, but dealing with repairs or replacements sounds like such a hassle. I guess I’d rather play it safe than risk another round of dental work, especially after finally getting rid of that awful toothache. It’s reassuring to hear you haven’t had any trouble, though—maybe I’ll get braver with time. Still, I can’t help but baby mine a little… just in case.

Totally relate to that urge to baby the crown—I was the same way after my first one. It took me a while to trust it, but over time I got more comfortable. Still, I avoid things like hard candy or biting ice... just feels like tempting fate, you know? It's not paranoia, just being smart after what we went through. Eventually, it gets easier and you start to forget it's even there.

Can totally relate to that—it’s like your mouth has a “new normal” for a while. I remember being super cautious too, probably overthinking every bite. After a few months, though, it just blended in with the rest of my teeth. Still can’t do ice cubes... not worth the risk.
