I found out about a family discount halfway through my daughter's braces. Had no clue until another parent in the waiting room mentioned it... typical, right? 😂 Makes me wonder what other secret deals they're keeping quiet about. Has anyone tried negotiating upfront payments vs monthly installments directly with the orthodontist? Curious if they'd budge on price if you offer cash upfront.

We actually went through something similar when my son got braces last year. I didn't know about any discounts either until I casually asked if there was a benefit to paying upfront. Turns out, our orthodontist offered a 5% discount if we paid the entire amount in cash at the start. It doesn't sound like much at first, but considering how pricey braces are, it added up to a decent chunk of savings.

If you're comfortable paying upfront, I'd definitely recommend asking directlyβ€”sometimes they won't volunteer that info unless you specifically inquire. Also, check if your orthodontist has referral discounts or seasonal promotions. Ours had a back-to-school special that we almost missed out on because they didn't advertise it openly. It's always worth asking around or even calling the office manager privately to see what they can do... you'd be surprised how flexible some places can be when you're ready to pay upfront.

We had a similar experience when my daughter needed braces a couple years ago. Initially, we planned on monthly payments, thinking it'd be easier on our budget. But after chatting with the orthodontist's office manager, we discovered they'd knock off 7% if we paid upfront in full. It wasn't advertised anywhere, just something they mentioned when I asked about payment options. Definitely worth having a quick conversationβ€”sometimes these offices have hidden ways to save a bit extra.

We found the same thing when my son got his braces last year. The upfront discount wasn't huge, but still enough to make it worthwhile. One thing I wondered later though... does anyone know if you can negotiate similar discounts for other dental procedures, like wisdom teeth removal or fillings? Seems like orthodontists might not be the only ones offering hidden savings.

We had a similar experience with my husband's root canal last yearβ€”asked casually about discounts and ended up saving a decent chunk. Makes me wonder if it's more common than we realize... has anyone else tried negotiating for routine cleanings or check-ups?
